Shute: Paintings Biography
Keenan Shute received her formal education from Peace Junior College,
Raleigh, North Carolina, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and
the Atlanta College of Art.
Painting and traveling with artist-husband Ben Shute for 25 years
was important to her personal development as an artist. "We especially
loved the Mediterranean countries where we spent many happy hours
painting on location. I have always been drawn to the classical ruins
of Greece and Italy."
Keenan has worked in many media including casein, oil, acrylic and
encaustic, but she finds watercolor offers a most exciting feeling
for expression and interpretaion of subject matter.
Her work has been accepted in many juried competitions where it has
won numerous honors and awards. Her paintings are part of private,
public and corporate collections throughout the Southeast including
the Columbus Museum.
A resident of Atlanta since 1957, Keenan is a member of the High Museum
and National Museum of Women in Washington, DC. Honorary memberships
include the Atlanta Portrait Society. She has served as President
of both the Atlanta Watercolor Club and Artists Associates.
